I have the latest DD-WRT SP2 Mega build running on the Netgear router. Following your instructions to install the client I enabled jffs filesystem. However, the filesystem only has a size of 576k free. The gzipped file is 900+k and untarred is 4+Meg. How am I supposed to get this on the file system? I thought this very strange for a router that has 64Meg RAM and 8Meg flash. Surely there must be more available! DDWRT says I have 48+Meg RAM free. Just as an aside, I loaded tomato and it does the same thing. If I enable jffs it says the size of the partition is only 576k so I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. (I know tomato isnt supported, i just did it to test the jffs stuff) OpenWRT has twice bricked my routers now so that isn't an option, although I suspect it would do the same thing with a tiny jffs partition. Any ideas on how this has to be done? Thanks.

When installing an DD-WRT image it is best to have about 2-2.5MB free between the size of the flash and the image size. For our testing we typically use the Standard image or Standard+USB. These are 3.5-4.7MB and provide sufficient free space to install the Versiera agent. One possibility is to extend the storage using an external USB storage device and mount the agent there.
The Netgear WNR3500L is an excellent router. Ideally it could use a larger flash size.
Another excellent router is the Asus RT-N16 which includes 128MB memory and 16MB flash. |

Thanks, I got this installed. I used the "Std" ddwrt build as opposed to "Mega" and it gave me a little over 3meg which let me install it fine. Not sure why they limit the jffs partitions like that on machines with large amounts of flash and ram. Oh well. Thanks.

One other option exists where JFFS is mounted as a CIFS file on a remote host. This is not an ideal solution as the contents of JFFS is dependent on a remote host being up and running, but may be the only option where the size of the flash is too small to afford installation of the agent on the router directly.
The details of the solution may be found here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Jffs |
